Anton Posniak – Look Out L.a.
Have you ever wondered where your favorite restaurants came from? It might seem like an odd question, but they have to have come from somewhere; restaurants don’t just create themselves, and there’s a lot more to starting one than simply throwing a guy in a kitchen and telling him to cook. Someone has to design the theme of the place, the idea, the concept behind it—to say nothing of laying out the dining area and creating an appealing menu.
Thankfully, there are people out there like Anton Posniak, who specialize in creating restaurants that deliver not just in taste, but in concept, as well. Indeed, Anton Posniak is a leading restaurant designed on the West Coast, having opened many of California’s hottest, most in-demand eating establishments, and what makes him so successful is that he knows a good restaurant isn’t just about great food—as important as that unquestionably is. No, for a restaurant to succeed, there also has to be a great concept—an idea behind the place that makes people interested in coming in to begin with.
The restaurants designed by Anton Posniak are certainly not lacking in concept. One of his most famous is a place called Tengu, a sort of sushi/Asian fusion restaurant that has won major acclaim for its blend of Zen-styled atmospherics and a modern, techno edge. Then there is Blanca, an upscale eatery that serves food said to be inspired in equal parts by California and France—all with “farm to table” freshness. There is also Nine Thirty, another “farm-fresh” eatery with a pastoral, patio atmosphere; The Backyard, which boasts Mediterranean-inspired California cuisine and interior design by one of the fellows from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy; and Ivar’s, a trendy nightclub and bar.
These restaurants are all very different from one another, of course, but that’s just a sign of Anton Posniak’s own restlessness as a designer; he’s not the kind of guy who could ever be content—or feel successful—in just doing the same thing over and over. But they are all united by a common flare for design and passion for providing a memorable dining experience—and these traits, of course, are vintage Anton Posniak.
